The Folly of Unbelief

What is unbelief? It is man running from God. At the very beginning, recorded in Genesis, man went out from the presence of God and sought fulfillment with God out of the picture. They did not want to honor God as God. They did not want God telling them what is right and what is wrong. This has been man’s path ever since.

But why would man run from God? It makes no sense. He gains nothing and loses everything. Consider the following points.

1) He misses out on a jaw-dropping deal. He misses an inner peace that passes understanding (Phil. 4:17), a pure conscience (Heb. 10:22), a joy the world cannot give (John 14:27), sins forgiven (Eph. 1:7), and eternal life and infinite reward (John 3:16, 2 Cor. 4:17).

2) He drinks a bitter cup. He experiences leanness of soul (Ps. 106:15). His mind is darkened (2 Cor. 4:4), his heart hardened (Heb. 3:13), and he grows weary and heavy-laden (Matt. 11:28).

3) He faces eternal judgment at the end. He will be cast into the lake of fire (Rev. 20:14), where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth (Matt. 13:42), and he shall be tormented day and night forever (Rev. 14:11, Rev. 20:10).

Isn’t it time to give up SIN for the SON? Isn’t it time to give up a bad deal for a good deal? Be reconciled to God.
